Monday July 27th marked the 10 year anniversary of the Women’s Mafia founded by Marcy Clark. Continuing tradition of their annual Red Party, the event was hosted at the Gansevoort Park and was an evening all about glamour, connection, and celebration, with this year’s theme being “You Oughta Be In Pictures” and the recommended dress being your Old Hollywood finest. Donations throughout the evening were raised for the charity Reach Within, which has sites in Grenada and St. Vincent that helps vulnerable children break the cycle of violence and develop social and emotional skills to succeed in life.

The event was co-hosted by The Men’s Collective and The Ladies’ Collective and partnered with The Wellness Lounge and Heart & Soul Magazine to create an evening of self-empowerment, community, beauty, wellness, and glamour. Monica Aparicio and the Wellness Lounge offered guests treatments, samples, and information about how to live a more healthy, happy, and wonderful life!

Critic’s Love Jane F. Collen’s Enjella Uprooted and the Enjella Adventure Series:

“Who doesn’t love a tooth fairy!  Especially one so inspiring and heartwarming as Enjella.  A creative and enlightening way to teach children about choice, self-esteem and following your dreams.  Enjella becomes a role model for young girls as she sparkles and shines while choosing her path in life.”
Ashley Papa, news writer and Producer, Fox News Channel

“Fun, fairy adventures for tweens who appreciate frills, sparkles and a clever female protagonist.”
Kirkus Reviews

“Enjella’s example will encourage readers that they have the power to achieve their hearts’ desire no matter what; that there is good in the world; and that there will be people along the way who will help them reach their biggest dreams. Through Enjella’s example of nimble resilience, she also shows kids and tweens how to deal with bullies that come in the form of an authority figure.”
Cannes nominated filmmaker and screenwriter Nikki Roberts

“Enjella’s courageous story is destined to become a fairy tale classic! This modern-day SHEro epitomizes Girl Power in every sense of the word. Enjella is a celebration of what every girl in the 21st century should aspire to be: bold, beautiful and audaciously smart.”
Miss United States 2013 Candiace Dillard

“Enjella Uprooted is a riveting adventure for kids and kids-at-heart. Collen creates a singular magical world where a rigid rules, mysterious bureaucracy and personal jealousies abound. In the tradition of characters like Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter’s Hermoine and Little Women’s Jo March, plucky and ernest Enjella dares to question the status quo and forger her own path to happiness and personal fulfillment.”
Women’s Mafia

“What a bewitching and fully realized world Jane Collen has created in Enjella Uprooted! Young readers will be transfixed as they travel with Enjella through her fairy adventures—her mishaps and her tooth-fairy missions—in a world that is at once familiar and fantastic. In quickly paced scenes, with dynamic dialogue and good humor, Collen gives kids more than a story; here’s an extensive and enchanted universe where they can get deliciously lost.”
Anna Monardo, author of Falling in Love with Natassia, and Courtyard of Dreams

“You can’t help but fall in love with first class tooth fairy, Enjella.  Come  along with Enjella as she flutters from one adventure to the next, sparkling teeth and sparkling the lives of the children she meets along her route.  An enchanting tale of finding one’s self.”

Awareness of Existence

From October 17 until December 19, 2014

Opening: Friday, October 17, 2014, 6pm – 8:30pm

Gallery Bar: 1056 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11221     718.928.7466

Gallery Bar is pleased to announce Awareness of Existence, the first solo exhibition by Natsuko Matsumura. She is a New York based international artist who received BFA in photography from Hunter College. Starting from 35mm black and white film photography, she expanded her use of medium to painting, sculpture, video, and mixed media.

As soon as she started to take photographs on the streets of New York City, she found fascination in the relationship between people and the surrounding environment. Coming from Japan by herself, she has felt distance from people and had hard time to get closer to them. This feeling of isolation is the issue of the society especially in modern urban digital culture like New York. Her work deals with strange and sad behavior and disconnection of humankind in contemporary urban environment.

In Matsumura’s ongoing project, Awareness of Existence addresses the notion of watching and being watched, forcing us to question our own existence. In her photographs, people look like toys or turn to look like objects in man-made spaces. It reveals the feeling of unimportance and vulnerability in sad and comical way at the same time.  “I don’t want people to be aware of the camera because once they feel someone is looking at them, they give different energy. A lot of people don’t get much attention and when they don’t, they feel invaluable and vulnerable and look small. This is peculiar thing that most people are self-centered, and think that they are the most important things themselves in the universe but the reality is not.”

Matsumura’s works come from the awareness of self-consciousness and struggling relations to other people in the society. Even her painting and mixed media, haunting and surrealistic images continue to convey watching and being watched by direct gaze and rise the awareness of the viewers existence.

Awareness of Existence will remain on view through December 19. Gallery Bar is open Monday – Friday, 12 PM – 12 AM, Saturday – Sunday 11 AM – 12 AM. For more information or to request images, please contact artist Natsuko Matsumura via e-mail at
