The Women’s Mafia’s first secret MAD MEN Party was a great success! People were dressed to impress and martinis were flowing.

NEW: I now have all the RUNWAY photos from the Women’s Mafia Fashion Show. Enjoy!

The Women’s Mafia Fashion Show was a huge success! We had over 500 – 600 people there, and gads of people waiting to get in upstairs (Thank you David Shapiro and you ladies). The models did an amazing job, the clothes look great, the Perry Gargano Jewelry shined and no one fell! (Well, almost, but that doesn’t count and its just because we had steps at the end of the runway so more people could see…)

Even backstage things went relatively smoothly with last minute fittings, hair, makeup etc. The models were ready over half an hour before showtime and then my friend and personal savior, stylist and photographer Nicole Marie Polec, was able to come and do my hair and last minute touch-ups. (It’s important to have a bouffant 3 inch ‘do when standing next to models, yes?)

The Women’s Mafia Event at Mimi Fertz Gallery Spring 2009

Featuring a talk on Russian art by art consultant and savant Rene Melchor, the evening brought out a fun and hip young crowd as well as the art cognoscenti.

Earlier this Spring we had the pleasure of enjoying an intimate gathering at Mimi Ferzt gallery in Soho where my dear friend Rene Melchor gave a talk on the history of Russian Art. It was fascinating! As he talked we looked at beautiful art and imagined scenes of artists – brave in their boldness – who gathered for large group shows in the park only to be attacked by dogs and to have to flee, knowing their work would be destroyed. Some pieces survived from this time, and imi Ferzt gallery has several of them. Rene is also an independent curator. You can read more about him in the Talent section and at http://www.renemelchor.com
