Weekend Happening: Oni Dance at the Joyce SoHo Theatre

By March 10, 2011No Comments2 min read

The Women’s Mafia is coming out this Friday and Saturday night to support a long-time Women’s Mafia member: Lisa Wahlander, a dancer for Los Angeles-based Oni Dance.

Will you join us to support the best modern dance this city has to offer?

Oni Dance invites you to join us at Joyce SoHo in New York City this March with the world premiere of Vanished Earth, a work that revels in the moment of flight between two worlds. The program also includes two New York City premieres: Exquisite.Corpse, an interrogation of intimacy, contamination, and mortality; and Wasteland (arrival, a piece inspired by Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot that grapples with the past and the unknown future. Read below for more information about each work!

Please join Artistic Director, Maria Gillespie on Friday, March 11th for a post-performance discussion.  On Saturday, March 12, we invite you to our post-performance reception. We hope to see you at our upcoming events and look forward to hearing your feedback on our new endeavors!

Oni Dance is an organization of artists that provides creative collaboration, performance, and movement education as the formula for furthering the growth and cultural impact of contemporary dance theater. Oni Dance’s artistic director and its members determine to engage and educate the public in the integration of dance, theater, music, film, and movement-based practices. The mission of Oni Dance is to ensure that dance retains a vital position in the social rituals of daily life through classes, workshops, collaborations and public performances.
