FASSBINDER, Sonja Fries’s beloved former West Village jewelry boutique that popped back up last season in Cobble Hill, is returning to her coveted Smith Street location just in time for the holidays.

In addition to Fries’s own jewelry line, the store will feature a fresh line-up of intriguing and unique work from jewelry designers Naomi Blumenthal, Martin Bernstein, Symbiotique and Michal Lando, fine jewelry artists whose work is usually found in galleries and art shows such as SOFA and Miami Art Basel. This year also marks the introduction of a ready to wear clothing collection by designer Kal Rieman. All featured designers create their work in the United States.

Sonja has long been enamored with Smith Street and its vibe, making the decision to return to Cobble Hill to interact with customers and promote local artists against the cultural backdrop of Brooklyn, her chosen location. The new store will embrace a “salon” ethos and host a variety of special events including traditional German Glühwein and evenings of prosecco sippings for the ladies as they build up their holiday wish lists. Sonja says: “My motivation is seeing the pop up being explored and appreciated by people who have an artistic approach to jewelry and fashion.”

Fries, recognizable as a blue-eyed svelte Bavarian gamine, is a meticulous goldsmith from Germany whose sublime jewelry has caught the attention of Michael Stipe, The Scissor Sisters, and Julianne Moore over the years. Her reputation as a dedicated and esteemed artist extends to Europe and the Far East where she has owned and managed galleries throughout Germany and Bangkok, including a decade long stint with partner Hal Ludacer at the much adored Fassbinder gallery in New York’s Greenwich Village. .
