Event Recap: TRIPTYCH Artisanal Footwear Launches SS 15

Events Fashion Fashion Week Featured

The Women’s Mafia was so proud to be a media parter for the TRIPTYCH artisanal footwear launch party this past week at the hip G TECTS architectural space on Delancey Street in the Lower East Side. TRIPTYCH will be in stores in February 2015 and our members got to meet architect, Parsons professor and designer Tania Ursomarzo and preview the gorgeous samples direct from Italy’s finest footwear artisans. The collection is now available for pre-order and select shoes are available at cost in their unique Kickstarter campaign. (SO COOL!)

You can look forward to handbag and jewelry accessories collections by designer, architect and Parsons professor Tania Ursomarzo in the near future!

TRIPTYCH Artisanal Footwear Collection Premiers at New York Fashion Week

Unique Line Debuted on September 3 with Fashion Film Screening

NEW YORK, NY, September 2014—Beauty with an edge, and a wedge, was on show when accessories label TRIPTYCH unveiled its first collection of artisanal footwear on the eve of New York Fashion Week at the architectural studios of G TECTS in the Lower East Side on September 3. An eager audience of editors, bloggers, photographers, buyers, and fashion aficionados got what it had come for: a finely tuned presentation of exquisitely crafted shoes defying simple categories of design and season.

In a space well matched to the innovative yet comfortable cool of TRIPTYCH footwear, the shoes beckoned from mirrored platforms, installed among everyday office objects, in classic neutral hues—with the occasional punch of vibrant turquoise. “Life is about moving,” read some of the buttons playfully placed inside the wine glasses at the event, and movement no doubt is the driving force behind what makes TRIPTYCH tick. A short fashion film directed by Tania Ursomarzo, the label’s designer, highlighted her footwear’s functionality and beauty of form on dancing feet caught in the reflections of New York City windows.

Designed for treading city pavements—whether they lead to the office, a black-dress event, or just down the street on an errand—TRIPTYCH shoes in fact celebrate movement: that of the foot in motion and that of the fine materials used in fabrication. Folds, wrinkles, asymmetrical wedges, and unexpected cut-outs simultaneously support practicality and flatter the foot. And with time, the shoe’s soft leathers will mold to their wearer, tracing the individual’s unique patterns of locomotion.

Conceptualized in New York, TRIPTYCH shoes are meticulously crafted by master artisans in Italy, and it is this marriage of bold innovation and solid workmanship that defines the label. Ursomarzo, herself an architect by training, wants her footwear to move beyond the confines of fashion and trendiness: “The world doesn’t need more shoes,” she contends; “it needs good, ever evolving, and innovative design.” Why? Because good design not only delights but also makes us think and rethink the ordinary.

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Collection

Design Events Fashion Fashion Week Featured

By Beth Vickerman

In numerous previous collections, Monique Lhuillier has demonstrated her mastery of the perfect ball gown, but for Spring 2015 on the Mercedes Benz runway she instead presented a beautiful collection focusing on daywear.
It soon became clear her focus was on gorgeous pastel colors: pale pinks, sky blues, shades of yellows and purples. Lhuillier said her inspiration came from a recent trip she took to Harbour Island in the Bahamas. It was at sunrise where there were different shades in the sky that caught her attention, as they produced a special kind of sparkle that she wanted to put into every piece of her collection.
This  inspiration was beautifully presented on various different fabrics. It was featured on a cocktail dress made from liquid satin and again on a neoprene dress but instead with a printed landscape. Whether is was through flower petals, detailed beading or sequins, Lhuillier was able to beautifully add that little bit of sparkle into every garment of her collection.

This Tuesday August 5th the Women’s Mafia hosted their signature Red Party, featuring a fashion presentation by iconic couturier Maggie Norris and benefitting the children’s charity Reach Within. This year marked the 9 Year Anniversary Party for the Women’s Mafia and as founder Marcy Clark noted: “we are so proud to be celebrating nine years of style, substance and philanthropy!”

The Red Party gala at the Glamorous Gansevoort Park hotel featured a fashion presentation by celebrity couturier Maggie Norris, who has

dressed icons such as Nicole Kidman, Beyonce, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston and Michelle Obama. Styled by EngieStyle, the presentation featured exquisite regal garments: dresses, corsets, trousers and jackets with red, gold and cream color palettes, and 1930’s and military inspirations. A stand-out in the show was Norris’s dramatic red silk “Grenada Gown” that dazzled the crowd. The Grenada Gown was inspired by the featured charity at the event, Reach Within, a charity with sites in Grenada and St. Vincent that helps vulnerable children break the cycle of violence and develop social and emotional skills to succeed in life. Thousands of dollars were raised to support Reach Within and their important work.

Illusionists Ben Nemzer and Cassandra Ruiz greeted the guests with a fiery magic trick and red roses upon entering the event, setting the tone of a magical evening where the guests would be cherished and celebrated. Photographer Becky Yee hosted her signature Vintage Vanga on-site Pin-Up Photo Booth, which was exceedingly popular and had guests posing with feathers, roses and props. Invitees sipped cocktails made by Cedar and Schrub, tasted whisky by women-owned brand Brenne Whisky and sipped cuvee by Magnifico Giornata. Co-hosted by fraternal social clubs The Men’s Collective and The Ladies Collective, the event embodied fun, glamour, boldness and beauty.

Excepts from Marcy Clark’s speech about the Women’s Mafia:

A lot of people ask me, “what is the Women’s Mafia?!” And I first always assure them that there is nothing menacing about us – no crimes or murders! We’re really a peace-loving bunch, and the women in this group are truly the best, most interesting, most dynamic, fun and bold women I know. I started the Women’s Mafia 9 years ago, when I’d only been in the city one year myself, because I truly believe in the power of community, especially like-minded, bold New York Women.

I had a vision that we could help each other to navigate this big place – get a great job, make some amazing friends – and more than that to support causes we believe in: charities like Reach Within that we are supporting tonight, independent businesses, female entrepreneurs, artists, and designers. I have to say that you ladies (and many gentleman!) have really come through on that vision, and so this party is really my gift to you to say thank you for all that you do for these causes and especially for each other. I know so many members who have become best friends, helped each other find new careers, had life-changing new experiences and really expanded what’s possible in their lives. And so I want to toast to you tonight, because you guys really, truly, make dreams come true!”

Hamptons Survival Guide: Arrive In Style

Events Fashion Featured

By: Marcy Clark and Arielle Breedyk

Summertime is in full swing and as our annual weekend trip to the Hamptons approaches we wanted to fill you in on our essential guide to the Hamptons so that you can also prepare for a perfect getaway weekend. Whether you are staying as a guest in a private home or cozying-up at a hip share house, this list will help make your trip as fabulous as can be.

Be sure to show off your inner summer goddess with the perfect suit. One bold favorite is this sexy black and white bikini by Maeeda or this lowcut sheer one-piece option by Cala Ossidiana.

Become the guest of honor  and make a splash by gifting your host or hostess with Alchemy in a Glass, the essential guide to handcrafted cocktails by expert Greg Seider. Be sure to bring along the key ingredients to your favorite drink and ensure you get asked back!

Before you set off on your trip, make sure your hair is primed for sun, sand and evening soirees at Y Gallery salon. If your highlights need a touch up, increase your natural glow with their French hair color technique, Bayalage (think hand-painted highlights!). We also highly recommend their Brazilian Keratin treatment to prevent that seaside frizz throughout the sunny days and long nights out.

Women’s Mafia founder Marcy Clark with master hairstylists and educators Yaniv (left) and Yoni (right) of Y Gallery Salon

Women’s Mafia has proudly partnered with Y Gallery Salon, co-owned by Yoni and Yaniv, for a recent event; be sure to mention Women’s Mafia when booking your appointment to receive the extra VIP treatment!

There is nothing more essential to remember at the beach than your skin. Be prepared for dryness from head to toe with Crackspackle by Lora Condon’s Beauty Buster Skin Care. This natural balm targets and repairs dry, cracked skin on hands, feet and lips.

Don’t let the rising summer temperatures stop you from wearing your favorite colors, dresses or fabrics. Recently our go-to antiperspirant has been Certain Dri. As a clinical strength antiperspirant roll-on, certain dry guarantees a 72-hour sweat and odor fighting protection and is resistant to all water for your dip in the pool or ocean.

As a traveling essential, be prepared to layer up! The Long Island railroad is known for being extremely cool compared to the summer heat, so be prepared to layer up for a comfortable commute.

Our favorite summer layering piece is the Drape Cardigan by Kenchen. You will use this piece all summer long and into Fall. Currently the Drape Cardigan is on sale for $98 with the original price of $148.

Another easy piece to add comfort and color is a Sophia Costas Scarf, available at ID Pop Shop in Chelsea Market and at Designer Mia Berglund’s site.

When you want to catch people’s attention while you are out and about, be sure to bring along a new hot bag. We love to bring out the brightest colors during the summertime. For a colorful tote to carry your beach essentials we recommend the new Cedar Street Perforated Harmony tote by Kate Spade.

Protect your eyes while looking glamorous with the perfect sunglasses by Lucky Selectism. This dynamic Korean brand, brought to the US by Heewon Kim & his wife JungEun Carolun Han, is a chic way to compliment your individual style. The inventive line is available at ID Popshop in Chelsea Market and also online at luckynyselectism.com.

As all Women’s Mafia members know, one of the most essential elements for any outfit are your shoes. Longtime Women’s Mafia members, Brazilian sisters Ana and Caroline have recently started Ana et Carol, an inventive online retailer that is bringing the best of Brazil’s sexy-yet-comfortable heels to the US marketplace. They were raised in the fast paced city of São Paulo; where fashion, architecture, art and high heels are icons of this huge metropolis with a population of almost 20 million people. Like many of their fellow Brazilian ex-pats they would wait to buy shoes (and bikini’s!) until they went back to Brazil for their annual trip. Now these trend-setting sisters are bringing these 100% South American leather and 100% Brazilian made shoes to the US in their favorite styles. Available soon at anaetcarol.com – for more information 917-319-9100 – caroline.lobo@anaetcarol.com

Night shoe –  Diva  $: $229.00
Material: leather; snake embossed leather.

Day shoe:  Scarlet $: 210.00
Material: leather

For a vibrant daytime look while you hit the shops or the beach, throw on a pair of Teysha Guate Sandals. Handcrafted in Guatemala and supporting local communities, these culturally bright sandals are sure are sure fit.

When venturing out to in the Hamptons you must always include an unforgettable cocktail dress. Show off your chic side with subtle patterns like the Ultra Violet dress by Kristi Vosbeck and be prepared for a Hampton’s white party and show off your tan with the Well Received dress by Kristi Vosbeck. Both dresses and other stunning looks online at kristivosbeck.com.

With fashion, sometimes our outfits aren’t quite complete without the perfect accessory. Here we have a list of your summer jewelry must haves.

Our favorite summer earrings are the elegant Joslyn earrings by Shaya. The design is simple yet elegant in a gold that is a perfect addition to any outfit.

Another summer best are these delicate gold bracelets, from the Barbara Wilkinson Jewelry made with beautifully cut gems and great for layering.  If looking for something a little larger, the Pyrite bracelet by Barbara Wilkinson Jewelry is also a stunning choice.

If you are headed on vacation as a single lady, keep the men intrigued with a beautiful right hand ring from Diamond Envy. This stunning piece features a .46 carat round brown diamond surrounded by a halo of white diamonds and is set in rose gold.

Make a huge seaside statement day or night with this beautiful necklace made from Tuscan wild rose branches cast in gold by Kimberlin Brown Jewelry.

We wish you the best trip to the Hamptons or whatever beach getaway you may be heading to!

About Community-Word Project:

Community-Word Project is a New York City arts-in-education organization that inspires children in underserved communities to read, interpret, and respond to their world and to become active citizens through collaborative arts residencies and teacher training programs. Founded in 1997, Executive Director Michele Kotler and CWP received an Echoing Green Fellowship to help young people develop the skills they need to be successful in school and in life. Since then, CWP has inspired more than 15,000 youth in underserved New York City communities to become positive agents of change for themselves and their communities through our school partnerships and hundreds of aspiring teaching artists through our intensive Teaching Artist Training and Internship Program.

CWP was founded with the belief that creative learning through the arts gives every child the opportunity to find a voice that, not only is heard, but also has the power to make you pay attention. According to a 2012 report from the National Endowment for the Arts, learning in the arts helps youth in under-resourced communities become more likely to stay in school, attend college, and be engaged citizens. Each year through our highly trained, diverse teaching artists, each year, CWP’s collaborative arts programming helps more than 1,500 New York City youth learn creative and critical thinking through poetry, sculpture, mural painting, photography, music/rhythm, dance, and performance, with every child leaving the classroom each day knowing, “I have a voice; my voice is powerful; my voice can change the world.”
