If you’ve been under a rock about the Women’s Mafia 11th anniversary gala benefitting ReachWithin, here goes… Imagine the elevator doors opening into a beautiful plush lobby where the winding hallway opens to reveal a dimly lit ballroom sitting on the penthouse of a building in the Flat Iron.
You arrive and are greeted with adornment of golden temporary jewels via Tribe Tats and divinely inspired henna designs on your delicate hands via Margie Nugent while sipping on delicious Daily Greens juices or enjoying a perfect cocktail!
Over at the opposite end of the ballroom you see Carmen Rubio setting up for your glamour photo. You get your picture taken by Carmen or photo artist Marcy Andrew Deliz before DJ Sharri starts to play luscious melodies and you strut in your Goddess costume to the dance floor.
Dancing, you look out the window to see the Empire State twinkling while you and your friends turn the heat up with your moves.
You pause to recoup and head on over to The Lifestyle Lounge pop up, where you receive a complimentary miracle stretch with Marina Simovic and sit down to speak to Dieniz Costa about dipping into your sacred sensuality, since you’ve been thinking about fully claiming your Goddess Power!

Imagine if you could begin using your workout to train your body to become so radiant, you stop traffic on the way out.
This is not only do-able, it makes working out a lot more interesting. You may find you cannot wait to strap on those tennies and get moving.
We do not need to lose a pound or tighten a thing to step into Radiance. It is the act of emitting light. Imagine someone’s face who is smiling brightly. They are literally beaming light. We can shine anytime we choose, and the more we train for it, the better we get at it.
Whether we are aware of it or not, many of us already do all sorts of things to augment Radiance. Think bedazzled, bling and glitter. It’s all designed to bring more light energy to the body. But, it’s not the only way can do this.
It’s one thing to wear that sparkly dress, it’s another thing to become it.
We can emit Radiance from the inside out. However, sometimes it’s not so easy to find our light. Sitting for hours at work, stress and fatigue do a number on our shine. That’s why our exercise routine is the perfect place to get it back.
During exercise, we generate heat and get energy flowing. When you combine your workout with the 5-step process outlined here, you can become a master of Radiance.
5 Steps to Cultivating Radiance During Your Workouts:
1. Set a Specific Intention
Before your workout begins, set your intention. What quality do you want to embody? Do you want to sparkle like diamonds or be explosive like fireworks? Do you want to glimmer like the surface of the ocean at sunrise or do you want to simmer like Jessica Rabbit? Be very specific and bring that intention to every movement you make.
2. Practice Emitting Light
After each work period, feel the intensity you’ve generated and imagine pouring it from your heart onto the person you love most in the world. Where attention goes, energy follows. Therefore, you may be surprised how your loved ones will feel you doing this and respond. If in the beginning it feels like you are making it up, stay with it. Once you see the impact it has on the people, you will know it’s real.
3. Get Your Flow On
During your workout, get everything in your body moving. Use the time to release stuck energy. Radiance is about Flow, so we want to bring as much Flow as possible. Rather than only focusing one body part, get every part of you moving: upper body, lower body and everything in between.
Embodiment is the act of running a certain energy through your body. We see actors do this all the time as they transform themselves into a role. Be deliberate in how you walk, talk and move about your workout. Pretend you were an actress and your job was to show someone what pure Radiance looks like in the way you carry your body.
5. Create Your On/Off Switch
Once you become really good at this, you may quickly realize why you don’t already do this all of the time. Stopping traffic can be overrated when it comes with whistles, cat calls and pesky admirers interrupting your workout. Therefore, Step #5 is to master the art of modulating your Radiance. In the same way you dialed it up, you dial it right back down. This way, you are at choice. If being invisible is to your advantage, you do that. If being shiny is to your advantage, you do that. Radiance becomes a skill you can turn on and off as you choose.
With these exercises, you build the foundation of Radiance in your “muscle memory.” In this way, you will naturally carry more Radiance in your life. Ideally, you become so good at embodying Radiance that you can access it at will, such as the moment when Mr. Right walks in the room and you want to be the brightest thing in his view.
We had the privilege of sitting down with Lisa Dolan, the founder and President of the new men’s styling and personal shopping concierge service Savile Row Society, which is reinventing the way men shop with a curated, omni-channel platform staffed with professional fashion stylists, to ensure men get the right look and fit, every time.
Women’s Mafia: What is the mission of Savile Row Society? What are the unique draws for your clients and customers?
Savile Row Society’s mission is to make an efficient and enjoyable shopping experience for the professional male. My goal is to make sure every guy has access to quality garments in an easy to use format. It’s that simple. I also have high falutin ideas about making SRS a men’s club, replicating the feeling of a Havana Club.
WM: How did you get your start in the world of high-end fashion and what advice do you have for up-and-coming young entrepreneurs and stylists?
I threw myself into the mens fashion world – I went to the high-end designers’ Market parties. The first warm intros were always done in a non-business setting, which was very helpful to me.
I learned that the high-end mens fashion business is very much of a family – everyone knows each other, and in order to do business, you need to join the family, and I was excited to join. I was originally seen as the weird tech-company but in the end after a few seasons, designers perked up and recognized SRS could be an idea partner to reach our high-end customer.
WM: I understand you support some great causes with Savile Row Society. What causes are important to you?
Career Gear provides professional clothing to under privileged men who are looking for employment. SRS was originally built on the tenets that personal branding and image are so important in today’s fluid marketplace, where no one stays in a profession or location for a lifetime.
Getting the interview/job is where the main discrepancies lie – once you have the job, anyone can learn and prove themselves. I am confident Career Gear has some role in closing that gap.
WM: When did you realize you could make your passion your career?
I was running on a treadmill and I saw my life on a clearly charted path in front of me.
I wanted to create my own path.
I knew I wasn’t excited – I wasn’t giving myself the opportunity to make an impact in any way. Thru SRS, we can effectively improve the image of professional men, to help them achieve both their personal and professional goals
WM: What is your favorite date night look for a man?
A blazer, jeans, brown shoes, and a shirt of his choosing – button downed to black tee shirt – the shirt shows what kind of man he is.
WM: You do so much between running your business, hosting so many fashion events and your cat type of person he is, or what type of date he wants it to be. I love a guy who wears a pocket square and no tie.
harity work – what energizes you?
Hmm that’s a good question – I don’t really know – I’ve always naturally had a lot of energy. I think it’s that I am extremely curious, love challenges, and love doing something new. If I had to pinpoint one driver, it would be my curiosity – I want to constantly be learning of what’s out there, and how I can be a part of it.
WM: What can the Women’s Mafia make happen for you?
Well for starters, I’d love to have SRS dress your man so you can go on doing what you love to do, and do other, more fun things together than go shopping!
WM: Lastly, please share with us – If you could dress any gentleman, alive or dead who would it be?
Warren Buffet! Mr. Buffet – our atelier is always open to you. :-)
Networking in NYC can be tough – especially for women. That’s why branding expert Lisa Josephson created Pitch! Networking to focus exclusively on women business owners and the triumphs and trials we face from determining the best time to scale to finding the right employees to executing a marketing plan. Our goal is to provide an environment for sharing business insights while creating valuable referrals and partnerships.”
This month, Rebecca Shine of NY Shine will speak about creating and executing a successful marketing strategy for your business, service, or product. Awareness of Existence
From October 17 until December 19, 2014
Opening: Friday, October 17, 2014, 6pm – 8:30pm
Gallery Bar: 1056 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11221 718.928.7466
Gallery Bar is pleased to announce Awareness of Existence, the first solo exhibition by Natsuko Matsumura. She is a New York based international artist who received BFA in photography from Hunter College. Starting from 35mm black and white film photography, she expanded her use of medium to painting, sculpture, video, and mixed media.
As soon as she started to take photographs on the streets of New York City, she found fascination in the relationship between people and the surrounding environment. Coming from Japan by herself, she has felt distance from people and had hard time to get closer to them. This feeling of isolation is the issue of the society especially in modern urban digital culture like New York. Her work deals with strange and sad behavior and disconnection of humankind in contemporary urban environment.
In Matsumura’s ongoing project, Awareness of Existence addresses the notion of watching and being watched, forcing us to question our own existence. In her photographs, people look like toys or turn to look like objects in man-made spaces. It reveals the feeling of unimportance and vulnerability in sad and comical way at the same time. “I don’t want people to be aware of the camera because once they feel someone is looking at them, they give different energy. A lot of people don’t get much attention and when they don’t, they feel invaluable and vulnerable and look small. This is peculiar thing that most people are self-centered, and think that they are the most important things themselves in the universe but the reality is not.”
Matsumura’s works come from the awareness of self-consciousness and struggling relations to other people in the society. Even her painting and mixed media, haunting and surrealistic images continue to convey watching and being watched by direct gaze and rise the awareness of the viewers existence.
Awareness of Existence will remain on view through December 19. Gallery Bar is open Monday – Friday, 12 PM – 12 AM, Saturday – Sunday 11 AM – 12 AM. For more information or to request images, please contact artist Natsuko Matsumura via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
This Tuesday August 5th the Women’s Mafia hosted their signature Red Party, featuring a fashion presentation by iconic couturier Maggie Norris and benefitting the children’s charity Reach Within. This year marked the 9 Year Anniversary Party for the Women’s Mafia and as founder Marcy Clark noted: “we are so proud to be celebrating nine years of style, substance and philanthropy!”
The Red Party gala at the Glamorous Gansevoort Park hotel featured a fashion presentation by celebrity couturier Maggie Norris, who has
dressed icons such as Nicole Kidman, Beyonce, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston and Michelle Obama. Styled by EngieStyle, the presentation featured exquisite regal garments: dresses, corsets, trousers and jackets with red, gold and cream color palettes, and 1930’s and military inspirations. A stand-out in the show was Norris’s dramatic red silk “Grenada Gown” that dazzled the crowd. The Grenada Gown was inspired by the featured charity at the event, Reach Within, a charity with sites in Grenada and St. Vincent that helps vulnerable children break the cycle of violence and develop social and emotional skills to succeed in life. Thousands of dollars were raised to support Reach Within and their important work.
Illusionists Ben Nemzer and Cassandra Ruiz greeted the guests with a fiery magic trick and red roses upon entering the event, setting the tone of a magical evening where the guests would be cherished and celebrated. Photographer Becky Yee hosted her signature Vintage Vanga on-site Pin-Up Photo Booth, which was exceedingly popular and had guests posing with feathers, roses and props. Invitees sipped cocktails made by Cedar and Schrub, tasted whisky by women-owned brand Brenne Whisky and sipped cuvee by Magnifico Giornata. Co-hosted by fraternal social clubs The Men’s Collective and The Ladies Collective, the event embodied fun, glamour, boldness and beauty.

Excepts from Marcy Clark’s speech about the Women’s Mafia:
A lot of people ask me, “what is the Women’s Mafia?!” And I first always assure them that there is nothing menacing about us – no crimes or murders! We’re really a peace-loving bunch, and the women in this group are truly the best, most interesting, most dynamic, fun and bold women I know. I started the Women’s Mafia 9 years ago, when I’d only been in the city one year myself, because I truly believe in the power of community, especially like-minded, bold New York Women.
I had a vision that we could help each other to navigate this big place – get a great job, make some amazing friends – and more than that to support causes we believe in: charities like Reach Within that we are supporting tonight, independent businesses, female entrepreneurs, artists, and designers. I have to say that you ladies (and many gentleman!) have really come through on that vision, and so this party is really my gift to you to say thank you for all that you do for these causes and especially for each other. I know so many members who have become best friends, helped each other find new careers, had life-changing new experiences and really expanded what’s possible in their lives. And so I want to toast to you tonight, because you guys really, truly, make dreams come true!”
