Critic’s Love Jane F. Collen’s Enjella Uprooted and the Enjella Adventure Series:
“Who doesn’t love a tooth fairy! Especially one so inspiring and heartwarming as Enjella. A creative and enlightening way to teach children about choice, self-esteem and following your dreams. Enjella becomes a role model for young girls as she sparkles and shines while choosing her path in life.”
Ashley Papa, news writer and Producer, Fox News Channel
“Fun, fairy adventures for tweens who appreciate frills, sparkles and a clever female protagonist.”
Kirkus Reviews www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/jane-f-collen/enjella-uprooted/
“Enjella’s example will encourage readers that they have the power to achieve their hearts’ desire no matter what; that there is good in the world; and that there will be people along the way who will help them reach their biggest dreams. Through Enjella’s example of nimble resilience, she also shows kids and tweens how to deal with bullies that come in the form of an authority figure.”
Cannes nominated filmmaker and screenwriter Nikki Roberts
“Enjella’s courageous story is destined to become a fairy tale classic! This modern-day SHEro epitomizes Girl Power in every sense of the word. Enjella is a celebration of what every girl in the 21st century should aspire to be: bold, beautiful and audaciously smart.”
Miss United States 2013 Candiace Dillard
“Enjella Uprooted is a riveting adventure for kids and kids-at-heart. Collen creates a singular magical world where a rigid rules, mysterious bureaucracy and personal jealousies abound. In the tradition of characters like Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter’s Hermoine and Little Women’s Jo March, plucky and ernest Enjella dares to question the status quo and forger her own path to happiness and personal fulfillment.”
“What a bewitching and fully realized world Jane Collen has created in Enjella Uprooted! Young readers will be transfixed as they travel with Enjella through her fairy adventures—her mishaps and her tooth-fairy missions—in a world that is at once familiar and fantastic. In quickly paced scenes, with dynamic dialogue and good humor, Collen gives kids more than a story; here’s an extensive and enchanted universe where they can get deliciously lost.”
Anna Monardo, author of Falling in Love with Natassia, and Courtyard of Dreams
“You can’t help but fall in love with first class tooth fairy, Enjella. Come along with Enjella as she flutters from one adventure to the next, sparkling teeth and sparkling the lives of the children she meets along her route. An enchanting tale of finding one’s self.”

Awareness of Existence
From October 17 until December 19, 2014
Opening: Friday, October 17, 2014, 6pm – 8:30pm
Gallery Bar: 1056 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11221 718.928.7466
Gallery Bar is pleased to announce Awareness of Existence, the first solo exhibition by Natsuko Matsumura. She is a New York based international artist who received BFA in photography from Hunter College. Starting from 35mm black and white film photography, she expanded her use of medium to painting, sculpture, video, and mixed media.
As soon as she started to take photographs on the streets of New York City, she found fascination in the relationship between people and the surrounding environment. Coming from Japan by herself, she has felt distance from people and had hard time to get closer to them. This feeling of isolation is the issue of the society especially in modern urban digital culture like New York. Her work deals with strange and sad behavior and disconnection of humankind in contemporary urban environment.
In Matsumura’s ongoing project, Awareness of Existence addresses the notion of watching and being watched, forcing us to question our own existence. In her photographs, people look like toys or turn to look like objects in man-made spaces. It reveals the feeling of unimportance and vulnerability in sad and comical way at the same time. “I don’t want people to be aware of the camera because once they feel someone is looking at them, they give different energy. A lot of people don’t get much attention and when they don’t, they feel invaluable and vulnerable and look small. This is peculiar thing that most people are self-centered, and think that they are the most important things themselves in the universe but the reality is not.”
Matsumura’s works come from the awareness of self-consciousness and struggling relations to other people in the society. Even her painting and mixed media, haunting and surrealistic images continue to convey watching and being watched by direct gaze and rise the awareness of the viewers existence.
Awareness of Existence will remain on view through December 19. Gallery Bar is open Monday – Friday, 12 PM – 12 AM, Saturday – Sunday 11 AM – 12 AM. For more information or to request images, please contact artist Natsuko Matsumura via e-mail at email@example.com

This Tuesday August 5th the Women’s Mafia hosted their signature Red Party, featuring a fashion presentation by iconic couturier Maggie Norris and benefitting the children’s charity Reach Within. This year marked the 9 Year Anniversary Party for the Women’s Mafia and as founder Marcy Clark noted: “we are so proud to be celebrating nine years of style, substance and philanthropy!”
The Red Party gala at the Glamorous Gansevoort Park hotel featured a fashion presentation by celebrity couturier Maggie Norris, who has
dressed icons such as Nicole Kidman, Beyonce, Halle Berry, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston and Michelle Obama. Styled by EngieStyle, the presentation featured exquisite regal garments: dresses, corsets, trousers and jackets with red, gold and cream color palettes, and 1930’s and military inspirations. A stand-out in the show was Norris’s dramatic red silk “Grenada Gown” that dazzled the crowd. The Grenada Gown was inspired by the featured charity at the event, Reach Within, a charity with sites in Grenada and St. Vincent that helps vulnerable children break the cycle of violence and develop social and emotional skills to succeed in life. Thousands of dollars were raised to support Reach Within and their important work.
Illusionists Ben Nemzer and Cassandra Ruiz greeted the guests with a fiery magic trick and red roses upon entering the event, setting the tone of a magical evening where the guests would be cherished and celebrated. Photographer Becky Yee hosted her signature Vintage Vanga on-site Pin-Up Photo Booth, which was exceedingly popular and had guests posing with feathers, roses and props. Invitees sipped cocktails made by Cedar and Schrub, tasted whisky by women-owned brand Brenne Whisky and sipped cuvee by Magnifico Giornata. Co-hosted by fraternal social clubs The Men’s Collective and The Ladies Collective, the event embodied fun, glamour, boldness and beauty.

Excepts from Marcy Clark’s speech about the Women’s Mafia:
A lot of people ask me, “what is the Women’s Mafia?!” And I first always assure them that there is nothing menacing about us – no crimes or murders! We’re really a peace-loving bunch, and the women in this group are truly the best, most interesting, most dynamic, fun and bold women I know. I started the Women’s Mafia 9 years ago, when I’d only been in the city one year myself, because I truly believe in the power of community, especially like-minded, bold New York Women.
I had a vision that we could help each other to navigate this big place – get a great job, make some amazing friends – and more than that to support causes we believe in: charities like Reach Within that we are supporting tonight, independent businesses, female entrepreneurs, artists, and designers. I have to say that you ladies (and many gentleman!) have really come through on that vision, and so this party is really my gift to you to say thank you for all that you do for these causes and especially for each other. I know so many members who have become best friends, helped each other find new careers, had life-changing new experiences and really expanded what’s possible in their lives. And so I want to toast to you tonight, because you guys really, truly, make dreams come true!”

About Community-Word Project:
Community-Word Project is a New York City arts-in-education organization that inspires children in underserved communities to read, interpret, and respond to their world and to become active citizens through collaborative arts residencies and teacher training programs. Founded in 1997, Executive Director Michele Kotler and CWP received an Echoing Green Fellowship to help young people develop the skills they need to be successful in school and in life. Since then, CWP has inspired more than 15,000 youth in underserved New York City communities to become positive agents of change for themselves and their communities through our school partnerships and hundreds of aspiring teaching artists through our intensive Teaching Artist Training and Internship Program.
CWP was founded with the belief that creative learning through the arts gives every child the opportunity to find a voice that, not only is heard, but also has the power to make you pay attention. According to a 2012 report from the National Endowment for the Arts, learning in the arts helps youth in under-resourced communities become more likely to stay in school, attend college, and be engaged citizens. Each year through our highly trained, diverse teaching artists, each year, CWP’s collaborative arts programming helps more than 1,500 New York City youth learn creative and critical thinking through poetry, sculpture, mural painting, photography, music/rhythm, dance, and performance, with every child leaving the classroom each day knowing, “I have a voice; my voice is powerful; my voice can change the world.”
Last week, Diamond Envy invited us to get a firsthand look at their wide selection of beautiful, natural colored diamond jewelry. We got to try on some of their amazing pieces and learned about natural colored diamond from the experts.
We just heard that Diamond Envy is now offering this creative gift idea just in time for the holidays – if you purchase one of their stunning pieces of jewelry for yourself, you can win a Play Station 4 for someone special in your life (or keep both and have a really rockin’ holiday!!!). We’re working on some upcoming events/giveaways with DiamondEnvy.com, so look for more fun stories about diamonds.
What do you think? Would you get a gift for you and your special someone or keep both the PS4 and the jewelry?
DiamondEnvy.com Is Giving Away the PlayStation 4 to Five Lucky Shoppers
This Black Friday, Diamond Envy will be giving away a free PlayStation 4 to five lucky customers as well as slashing prices 10% storewide. The first five customers to buy a piece of jewelry from DiamondEnvy.com after 12:00 PM EST on November 29th will also receive a free PS4! It’s the biggest His-and-Hers deal this holiday season!
Sony sold over 1 million PS4 consoles the first day it was launched. Now sold out everywhere—online and in stores—it has become the most unattainable Christmas gift this year. But Diamond Envy doesn’t want you to stress about it. Sleep late, stay in your PJ’s, and still beat out everyone else for Best Gifter this year. Be one of the first five customers to buy earrings, a pendant, an engagement ring, or any other piece of jewelry for sale on our site and get a free PS4 with your order. And ladies, we didn’t forget about you. With this offer, you can buy jewelry you know you’ll love for yourself and call that the freebie when you give the PS4 to your man. Imagine his delight when he sees how thoughtful you were by getting this season’s blockbuster gift for him. The holidays are all about giving!”
For those already planning to buy their wives, girlfriends, daughters, mothers, fiancées, aunts, cousins, or mistresses diamond jewelry, this is it. This is the deal of the year. For those who had to compromise (“Okay, honey, you can have the big ticket item this year and I’ll wait until next year for a piece of jewelry”) there’s no need for compromise anymore—not now that you can buy one gift and get the other.
